Bundestag and the Brandenburg Gate

The German Parliament Building was built at the end of the 1800s by the Kaiser who had “To the German People” written over the portico to guarantee the loyalty of the population. After being used by the Reich and then the site of a fierce battle at the end of which the Russian Army flag was raised above on it, the palace at the Brandenburg Gate remained a symbol of lost democratic freedom.
The building again became the seat of the Parliament in 1999 when it was restored and reconstructed, including the construction of the large glass dome which had become its symbol.
There is a beautiful view from the terrace and dome of the Parliament which makes the Bundestag a tourist hot-spot.
Admission is free.
Close to the Bundestag building is the Brandenburg Gate. Built by the Kaiser, it represented the divided Berlin more than any other monument. From the building of the Wall until its fall, the Gate was in the middle of no-man’s land, between the Wall and the metal barriers guarded by the soldiers from the East.

More than a million Berliners paraded under its enormous arch at the reunification of Germany, and only after the Wall fell did the Winged Victory statue again take her place above it.
